Before going on fishing trip, it is best identify what you want in a reel- where you will be using it and the sizes of the fish you want to get on your hook. If you are planning to catch big fish, then a large fishing reel is necessary since your fishing line would also be heavy. However, you won’t need a big reel if the length of your line is short. Always take note that the size of the reel is dependent on the weight and usage of your fishing line.

There are four types of fishing reels generally used worldwide, namely the Spinning reel, the Bait-casting reel, the Fly-casting reel, and the Spin-casting reel.

The spinning reels are the most easy to use and are a popular type for inshore fishing. There are actually two kinds of spinning reel: the close-faced spinning reel, which actually has a button to avoid any tangles when you cast your fishing line, and the open-faced spinning reel, which adds more distance to your cast compared to the close-faced reel. This type of reel is fairly cheap. The prices would even go down when there is a discount fishing reels.

Casting a line using the bait-casting reels would cause some difficulty. But, once you get the hand of it, you will never want to stop using this type of fishing line for casting. The casting reels come in handy when it’s time to set the lure or bait.

For fly fishing, a fly-casting reel would be suitable to meet your needs. The other reels will not work as effectively for this type of fishing, since fly-casting reels are narrower despite that the reel has a bigger diameter.

On the other hand, the spin-casting reel is more like a combination of the spinning reel and bait-casting reel. This reel is recommended for beginners for its simple setup.
