Fishing Rod Holders

A fishing rod holder is a handy tool that frees to use both hands when setting the lure and then removing their catch from the hook. When you use a fishing rod holder, you don't have to worry about letting go of the pole thereby losing the fish you have worked so hard to catch.

Early designs of rod holders consisted of two parts: pole-binding and straps. The pole-binding device's purpose used a strap to affix the fishing pole to the railing. The majority of straps used velcro, and were attached to the angler's waist, wrist or ankle. These initial designs were cumbersome and often hindered instead of helping as they were meant to do. The newer designs are comprised of four parts: two pole clips and two straps. These give the user greater stability and make it easier to see when the fish take the bait.

Other fishing rod holders have incorporated a remedy for sea sickness by applying a constant pressure to critical acupressure points on the body. When worn during the fishing trip on a boat, this extra feature can be an excellent way to ensure that the fishing trip is enjoyable - for all.

Fishing rod holders are really at their best when used for fly-fishing. When fishing along rocky rivers and streams, it is nearly impossible to use one hand to fish. If you can clip the rod to your lower leg, it frees both your hands for attaching the lure and removing the fish from the hook. Upper pole clips give free rotation and movement. This makes flexible rods easier to handle and fishing that much more enjoyable.

It doesn't matter if you're fishing from a dock, a boat, or on land, the fishing rod holder is always a great tool for any fishing trip. It gives extra support, makes you more sensitive to bites and lets you release the rod for a brief respite without losing it.

Many fishermen have made their own cheap fishing rod holders. What you would need is a strong support and some straps. If you're really creative, you could even use a bungee cord. This is an inexpensive way to boost your fishing results.

For those of us who are not that handy, fish and bait shops sell a variety of good fishing rod holders designed for the different fishing experiences, and can usually be found for a reasonable price.

You can still have a great time fishing without a fishing rod holder. But it can become an even better, more successful fishing trip with this handy tool.
