Okay, you've got your fishing reel out and now you want to know "When is the best time for fishing?" The smart answer to "when is the best time for fishing" is when they are biting." That is probably not what you were looking for but maybe this will help.
There are many different factors to consider before attempting to determine an answer to that question.
Anytime you are fishing during a cold front, you will always encounter a tough time. If you are going to try to fish during a cold front always make your presentations slow.
However, when a warm front is on the way.. Then you want to grab your favorite fishing reel, your tackle box and some lunch and get out on the water. if you missed the forecast, there is still an easy way to tell..a warm front will feature a west south westerly wind; a cold front most often has an easterly. An old fishing axiom says fish bite the best when the wind from the west..fish bite the least when the winds from the east. Simply remember the rhyme.
If you fishing for panfish or northern pike the best time will be during sunrise or sunset, usually, they will not bite at night unless you are fishing for crappie.
Walleye and carp are pretty much the same but you are able to catch them at night sometimes better than during daylight hours.
Catfish are primarily nocturnal..they usually are biting during the day but they really thrive at night.
Again, keep in mind, west is best, east is least.
Good fishing to you.
